What is a Medical Exam?
A specialized medical exam is offered to any child who has allegations or concerns of abuse. The purpose of the medical evaluation is to help ensure the health & safety of the child, to diagnose and address any medical conditions resulting from the abuse, and to collect any evidence that may be associated with abuse. The exam is also used to assess for and treat sexually transmitted infections, injuries, and pregnancy. Most importantly, it is performed to reassure the child and family that his/her body is okay.

These specialized exams are offered at no cost to families and are conducted at Wade Knox Child Advocacy Center by a sexual assault nurse examiner with child abuse expertise.
